Brush Washing Tips

No one likes washing their brushes, am I right? I know I always dread gathering all my brushes to wash but sadly it has to be done.

For today’s post, I thought I’d give my beauties some tips on washing their brushes:

  1. Shoot for weekly washes. If you don’t do it weekly, bacteria builds up on your brushes and can cause you to break out. Not fun AT ALL!
  2. Set a day of the week to wash. I know it helps me to pick one day a week that I will always wash my brushes on. Sure I’m dreading it when that day shows up. But at least I have a schedule.
  3. Don’t just use water. Just water or a makeup remover wipes will not do the trick. The best way to clean your brushes is with a brush shampoo. One of my favorites is the Japonesque Solid Brush Cleaner. It works hard to get all the makeup off and my brushes look brand new afterwards.
  4. Be patient. Yes, brush cleaners work really well. But don’t expect them to instantly get out all the dirt and makeup. Work the shampoo into the bristles and the makeup will come off shortly. Just won’t be instant results sadly!
  5. Lay flat to dry. After I wash my brushes, I lay them flat on a hand towel to dry them. If you let your brushes just sit anywhere, they won’t dry very well. Laying them flat separate from each other will help them reshape once dry.

What are your top tips for washing makeup brushes? Let me know in the comments!

MOTD: Smoky Flirt

On this rainy day, I thought I’d go for a smoky eye and neutral lip for today’s makeup.

My eyes are coated in dark grey shadow for the smoky effect, with my signature black winged liner.

On my cheeks, I’m wearing contour and a purple highlighter.

My lips are a pale pink for a touch of flirty fabulousness.

Monday Must Have

There are so many amazing skin care products out there. I just discovered this really great face cleanser I wanted to share with you beauties!

The H2O Beauty Elements Keep It Fresh Face Cleanser is so fabulous! Not all face cleansers work well but this one definitely does.

This one really makes my face feel clean and gets rid of dirt, oil and excess makeup. It really does a great job of helping cleanse my skin completely.

I apply this after removing makeup and it really keeps my skin feeling fresh. After using it, I feel like I don’t need to do much else with my face.

You massage the product into your face for 30 seconds and it makes my skin tingle in the best way possible! I can actually feel the product working on my skin, which is amazing.

A little goes a long way with this little guy. Just take a small amount (dime sized dollop) and massage into your skin. You’ll be amazed with the results!

Product Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

After so much excitement for trying this product, I decided to review this super popular primer from Smashbox.

It was…ok. I know a lot of people love it but I don’t love how oily it feels. It says it’s oil free but when I put it on, my skin feels really oily.

Unlike most primers, this one doesn’t seep into my skin quickly. I prefer having one that sticks immediately to my skin. For some reason, this primer kind of sits on my face for a while and doesn’t feel like it works.

One thing I like about this primer is how it keeps my foundation and concealer in place. Some primers don’t keep my makeup in place completely. I’ve noticed this one really grabs onto my makeup and doesn’t rub off.

Overall not my favorite primer but it works decently. I had high expectations for it so I guess it’s a little disappointing that I didn’t love it. I’m hoping to try another primer from Smashbox soon!

Friday Fun Day: Unicorn 🦄

You all probably heard about the Unicorn Frappuccino at Starbucks. Since I work there, I decided to do a unicorn-inspired makeup look to promote it.

For my eyes, I carved out my crease with Star Power from Jeffree Star’s Beauty Killer palette, with Expensive on the lower lashline. For the glitter, I used the Makeup Forever Glitter in Sand.

Instead of eyeliner, I went for the Ardell #101 Demi Lashes to add some more drama.

On my cheeks, I’m wearing the Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer and Daydream from the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit.

Finally for lips, you know I had to wear Jeffree Star’s Unicorn Blood lipstick.

I love this look…this is quintessential me!

Ride or Die: Primer

Once a mini series ends, a new one begins! In the new Ride or Die mini series, I will go through my ride or die for each type of product (foundation, primer, etc.) Hope you enjoy!

My ride or die primer would have to be the First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer. It’s a moisturizer and primer in one beautiful product and I love it!

Because it’s a two in one, it makes my skin ridiculously soft but also primes it flawlessly for foundation. The priming moisturizer gives me an amazing canvas for the rest of my makeup.

I talk a lot about the scents in my products and this one by far has the best scent. The relaxing coconut scent is so soothing when I do my makeup in the morning. LOVE IT!

Compared to other primers, this one is the best because it moisturizes and makes me skin glow. The bottle doesn’t claim it will help with that but it actually makes my skin glow!

Needless to say, I definitely consider this primer a ride or die product!

Let me know in the comments if you like this mini series idea!

April Sephora Play! Box

I got my Sephora Play box early this month and I could not be more thrilled to open it! So let’s jump right into it:

The bag, first of all, is really cute! Even though it’s white and will definitely get dirty, I like the message on it and the design is cute. I love it already!

Now here’s everything I got this month:

  • Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
  • Makeup Forever Aqua XL eyeliner in Black
  • Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream
  • Daisy by Marc Jacobs fragrance sampler
  • Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliator

The winner for this month is WAY too hard to pick. Sephora Play really nailed it with this bag!

If I had to pick, I’d probably say I’m the most excited to try the Smashbox primer. I’ve been dying to try it since I first got into makeup. I’ve heard so many amazing things about it so I can’t wait to try it!

Overall this month’s bag is the best I’ve ever gotten from Sephora Play! I really have no complaints about any of these products so YAY!

Monday Must Have

I rarely talk about hair products, especially for someone who has color-treated hair. But when I do talk hair products, you know I mean it because my hair has been through A LOT!

I got the Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast in last month’s Sephora Play box and I am in love with it.

Like all Living Proof products, the scent is great. It smells like a salon, which is such a great scent for hair products. The scent alone is one of my favorite things about Living Proof products.

This spray is supposed to add volume to your hair and it definitely holds well. I spray a bit at my roots and then tousled my hair and BAM…volume galore!

I’m not sure this product is supposed to double as a dry shampoo but it actually does for my hair. After I spray my roots, my hair looks freshly shampooed. How amazing is that?

I seriously love this hair spray! I definitely recommend it, especially to beauties who have never tried this brand.
